Could a toy storage chest help the kids to automatically put away their own toys!

When you think about it, the typical toy storage CHEST is hard to use. Think pinched fingers and/or having to hold the top open with one hand.

Watch the fingers

In addition, the child can't see all the toys under the top few. That means traditional toy storage chests such as those from Bombay, Stanley or Just for Kids all have one common feature: what goes in can (and WILL) all come out.

The video below shows a one at a time toy storage cabinet. Each of the toys is visible in its own compartment, so there is no doubt about what toy the child is choosing. They come in a 2x2 arrangement or with several compartments in a row. The taller ones take up less floor space while the lower ones can be used as a bench for sitting.

Child psychologists say that the children value each toy more if they have to make a “sacrifice” (put it away) to get another toy. That is, when they are done with the toy it still has value of using as currency for another toy.

You would see this in your own child when they drop a toy they are playing with and go to the One at a time toy cabinet. They try to open it to get another toy and can’t. After a few tries they may look to you to solve their problem or just remember that by “giving up” the old toy they can get a new one. They will look at the old toy, think about it, and often just keep playing with the old toy for a while longer. They now “value” the old toy a little more because they were faced with the choice of giving it up, at least for a while.

They will also place more “value” in the new toy more once they eventually decide to “pay” for it with the old toy.

Toy bench, toy storage organizer, toy cabinet, toy box... I call ours "One at a Time Storage Chests" since everyone is familiar with the term toy storage chest.
