Are you here looking for toy box plans because traditional manufacturers leave you cold?
The toy box plans that led to the One at a time Toy Cabinet prototype shown in the video below are the result of years of patience. I was frustrated like most grandfathers, that my grandchildren were often as odds with their own parents over toys spread out all over. I though I could just buy something to help my son and his wife out. Age and experience are supposed to bring wisdom to guide our kids in their own parenting. Well, after watching and thinking about toy storage with my first grandchild, I thought all I had to do was buy the right gadget or piece of furniture and solve the problem. So I looked at all the usual places: Sears, Ikea, Target, Wal-Mart, Toys-R-Us. Nothing seemed at all helpful. There were toy boxes, toy chests, toy bins, toy hammocks, toy shelves and toy racks. In each case the child could (and would) take all the toys out and spread them all over before dinner each day. So next I tried on-line: Bombay, Just for Kids, Pottery Barn, All Children's Furniture, Step 2, Company Kids, The Land of Nod. Same story. Lots of standard designs, painted with cute Disney or Star Wars characters. But their toy box plans lacked functionality in terms of supporting the child. What I had noticed when watching my grandson was that he would be quite willing to help put toys away. Unfortunately if there was more than 2 or 3 to put away, he would find an interesting one in his hand and would forget that he was putting away toys, until the next less patient reminder. My question was: "Why does he have to have ALL the toys out in the first place?" Take a look at the toy cabinet in this video: You already have a toy storage system in your house. At least if your child has any toys to play with.
My original toy box plans considered somehow automatically getting the toys back in to box. But with too many toys this became unnecessarily complex.

So I focused on whether the child really needed to have all the toys out in the first place. They usually only play with one at a time. Why not put one back before getting the next one out? Well what parent has the patience (let alone the time) to methodically and repeatedly teach/show their children to put each one back before getting the next one? How about if the toy chest itself wouldn't let the child get the next one out until they had put one back? You don't have to hire a baby sitter each evening to get you kids to clean up. However this piece of furniture that makes this problem go away will be there, patiently, for years to come. You don't have to make your own toy box plans and build a toy box that will work for you. I'm Rick Rantilla and I'd like to build one of my patented designs for you. Give me a call at 919 279-3045 right now.
