Resolving family conflicts and helping children keep toys in order.
As seen in the video below, this unique childrens furniture is automatically resolving family conflicts by getting the child to pick up toys one at a time and without parental involvement. Once there are toys all over the house it is hard to avoid an argument about cleaning them up. The old saying is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The One at a time Toy Cabinet can PREVENT the spread of toys. When dinner time comes, there is at most one toy (or set of toys) for the child to put away. This is certainly doable without creating a family conflict. In this video it might appear the kids furniture is educating the child. In reality, the parents create the environment and set the tone for any kind of activity. The toy cabinet itself can work to support this, but resolving family conflicts is really up to the parents. Before you purchase and set up such a toy chest at your home there is a bit of preparation. To do that preparation well, it helps if you have a theory of how your child is likely to react.
The most important thing is to not discuss the toy chest in terms of discipline or restricting or preventing the child from doing anything. When children think they are being controlled or manipulated, they focus immediately on whoever is in charge and try to figure out how to CHANGE THEM! I'm sure you have seen this in your children, perhaps as young as a few months old. Present the toy chest as simply a new piece of furniture. Then INSTRUCT the child in how to operate it. DO NOT say things like "see the disk prevents you from getting another toy". That focuses on the restriction. Instead say "see how we can get another toy by simply turning the knob!" This is helping them to understand what the toy chest does. What the child wants is access to the toys. They don't want or need to be told to pick up the other toys. When they see that the other toy is a means to get the new one, they will probably figure it out without any prompting. At most, you might want to SHOW THEM and show them only ONCE! They will figure it out and it will be second nature to them, just like grasping for something.
